Engraved gifts for friends in Perth
May 2nd, 2008 by mark
The wife and I just came back from a short trip down under to Perth, Australia. It was a short break for us to relax and at the same time, visit her Uni friends, celebrate our first ROM anniversary and shopping…
Can’t believe we bought so much stuff… we went there with one check in luggage and one hand carry and came back with 2 check in luggage and 2 hand carry!
Anyway I think I just digressed from the title. So back on track.
As I mentioned above, it was a trip to meet her friends, so some gifts were in order. We decided to give something special, unique. There were two guy friends who had birthdays coming up (or passed!) so it was simple, beer mugs for them.
The wife found the musical notations for the Happy Birthday song and I hand drew the score onto the mugs. Next, she wrote the Happy Birthday message for both mugs and I got them engraved.
Here’s the pic of one of the mugs:
One thing I found very difficult while engraving the mugs were the bar lines… It was very very very hard to get it consistent. I think the unevenness can be seen in the photos above.
Luckily her two friends loved it though one guy says he’s actually quitting drinking… Yeah right!
The next gift we had to give was for her very close friend, her “sister”.
For her, we bought a Schott Zwiesel glass plate and I engraved the phrase, ” A true friend is the greatest of all blessings! ”
The phrase was written freehand on the top surface of the glass and the engraving was done in reverse, on the flip side (bottom) of the glass.
It was very well received but we forgot to get a stand for her to display it on. Ah well….
Ok thats all for now, am slowly getting back into gear after a relaxing holiday.
I already miss the weather in Perth the moment I got back to the cauldron in Singapore… sigh…
