Reaching a milestone
Dec 17th, 2007 by mark
When I first started out glass engraving about a year ago, I really didn’t know how far I’d be able to go. However I must say that in the recent months, it has been really satisfying. I’m also proud to say that I’ve reached a milestone that I consider quite significant.
In most of my engraving projects and requests, there is a need to keep costs really really low. (Wedding couples have a tight budget to work with!). To reduce cost, I have to find affordable glasses to fit the couple’s budget. However, while I go sourceing for glasses, I always detour to the displays where the higher end glasses are. Most of the time, I’ll be staring at a display of Schott Zwiesel glass collections. In the back of my mind, I’d say, “One day I’ll be engraving crystal glasses of this quality and higher.”
To my surprise, that day though isn’t really far off! In early December, I was tasked to engrave a wine glass from Riedel! Average price tag for a glass is $50 and upwards if I’m not wrong.
And just yesterday I received a request to engrave 6 wine glasses. At first, I suggested that I meet the person in town to collect the glasses from her. However I was told she’d rather deliver it straight to my place as she was afraid the public transport journey would break the glasses. I was fine with that and so I waited.
She arrived soon enough and passed me 3 Tangs bags. I took a peek and lo and behold, I saw the logo of Schott Zwiesel. In my mind I was like “Wow! No wonder she wants to personally deliver this.”
I am really looking forward to completing this
