Sky Dining by Jewel Box at Mt. Faber

Just on Saturday, my wife brought me to experience the much talked about Sky Dining on the cable car service between Mt. Faber and Sentosa island.
All I can say that it is really a “unique” experience!
Imagine, plates shaking, glasses of water spilling, tilting tables, wet table cloth. Yeah that’s what we experienced.
The whole Sky dining experience consists of 3 round trips on the cable car starting from Mt. Faber to Sentosa and back with each round a serving of the starter dish, main course and dessert.
The staff first slides in the table and serves the starter dish. Next we slide our butts in. The cabin is not that big and it was rather difficult to get in. On more than one occasion, I accidentally kicked the legs of the table, causing it to jerk and throw off the glasses.
The earthquake experience happens when the cable car leaves the station, as it hooks onto the moving cable and drops down a little. The water in the glasses were sloshing all over the table, consequently wetting the table cloth.

Here’s a shot of the sloshing water.

My soup bowl was almost shook out of its plate!
Now imagine this being repeated with different intensity about 15 times as the cable car has to move in and out of the Harbourfront, Sentosa stations as well as 2 more substations.
The other thing was, it was HOT!!! There is no air conditioning in the cable car, and just a few small slits and 2 door windows for letting air in. I guess that’s the reason the staff provided a fan.
Ok on to the food. The starter dish of smoked salmon was just ok. A little too bitter for my taste.

The main course was a beef tenderloin steak.

My wife and I ordered for medium rare, but mine ended up being more medium than medium rare. Portion wise was just right. Taste and quality wise, I think there are many other places that serve good steak :P. My wife and I didn’t like the red wine served though. I found it really bland. I didn’t finish mine and my wife almost gagged when she finished the last mouthful.
Lastly the dessert. We both had a brownie cake each and tea.
That was ok, but by that time, the both of us were already bored of the cable car ride and wanting to get off ASAP.
Besides the shaking and the heat, what I didn’t like about the whole experience was that at each station stop, we were like “dining exhibits”. The cable car door automatically opens when the car reaches the station and we were in full view for the people queueing up for a cable car ride. Not really pleasant.
Will I recommend it to others? Hmm… not really… It was definitely an experience, but a one-time-only-never-again experience.
What an experience. I’ll bet that you won’t forget that dinner! Maybe the view was great!

Hi Cecelia,
Well the view was nice but thanks to Singapore’s humid weather, it got quite unbearable towards the end.
