I got someone interested in glass engraving

Yep! Earlier today I received an email from Miss J, expressing her interest in learning how to engrave glass. She found out about me doing glass engraving from Ping.sg. Anyway, as I was replying her email, it occurred to me that it will be getting much harder to find tools and supplies for engraving in Singapore. The hardware store in Centrepoint, that I first got my rotary tool is closing down and they’ve cleared off whatever tools and supplies for Minicraft. And just last weekend at the Art Market, an engraver I met told me that Minicraft itself has closed down. Ouch!
Fortunately I found that the hardware shop in Marina Square carries another brand of rotary tools, Dremel. Getting the required diamond engraving bits is another story however. One would most probably have to find it somewhere else. Order it online or scour other local hardware stores. I was lucky last weekend when I casually enquired at a neighbourhood store about engraving bits. The shop owner dug out a box of about twenty diamond tip bits of varying shapes and the whole set cost only $15! Previously, I have to get each bit at $10 each! It felt like I hit a gold mine. Well hopefully this store has more supplies as I’m sure as I spend more time engraving in the coming months, I’d need more supplies. And also as more people start getting interested, more tools are needed.
Lastly back to Miss J, thank you for email after reading my posts in ping.sg. It really feels good that I’ve sparked a growing interest in glass engraving. Maybe some day I’ll be conducting courses!
