Interesting things that caught my eye at the Art Market

I was at the Art Market @ Fort Canning Park last weekend after reading about it from Paddy’s blog. I’ve not attended any art markets or markets catered to the selling of art in any form ever in Singapore so I made it a point to have a peek at what’s going on.
There were many artists exhibiting their creations. Traditional art forms like paintings, pottery were on display. Custom handmade jewellery stalls were a common sight, each with their own distinct styles and designs. It was really a woman’s heaven for jewellery shopping.
Anyway, when I was there, I found myself gravitating to stalls that were pretty unique. Here’s a few things that caught my eye:
Moobe Fung’s stall with lamps made out of Absolut bottles and shades printed from photograps. Very interesting, very beautiful. Wish I can get one for my new home in the near future!
Moss ball plants. Plants grown on moss balls and attached to small containers e.g. shot glasses. Pretty cool and requires minimal maintenance. Great for office desktops.
Wanton Doodles! Now this is really interesting. They had a wall full of doodles done by visitors and some were pretty interesting. Who knows, good doodles might even be made into t-shirts and the person who doodled that doodle gets paid! http://wantondoodles.blogspot.com/2007/06/fort-canning-art-market.html
Handmade paper earrings. Amongst all the custom jewellery stalls, this one was more unique. It got me wondering though.. what happens if it rains??
Glass making. Did you know there was a glass making workshop/studio in East Coast/Katong area? Now I know. Setup in 2004 by B. Jane Cowie from Australia. Her creations, glasses, decorations were in many shapes and colours. She offers glass making courses at the studio on Tuesdays and Wednesdays nights. Check out her gallery and personal exhibition site www.bjanecowie.on.net
Well that pretty sums up my visit to the Art Market. I hope some day soon, I can take part in such events of my own with my own creations.
