Help! I’m locked in my room!
Jun 6th, 2007 by mark
Ever got caught in such a situation before? Well I did. Last night. What happened was the mechanism inside the door knob, broke. The insides of, whaddayacallit, the small piece that goes into the side of the door frame that looks like a thumb, broke and it subsequently jammed up. So no matter how much I turned the knob, there was no way the door is going to open. I succeeded in getting the whole knob set off but that didn’t help much as it broke off from the thumb-looking piece.
Unfortunately for me, I’m staying in a rented place and my housemate was out for a while. Good thing though she suspected something was up, when I sent her an sms that there was something wrong with my door and subsequently, “i’m locked in” message, she came back quick. Next unfortunate thing for me was that she told me there were no tools at home. No pliers, no screwdrivers. Ouch. That left us with no choice but to call a locksmith in the middle of the night. About an hour later, after much knocking and pulling with a wrench, the locksmith got the door open. Phew, relief for me, but a pain to my wallet.
I was trapped for about 3 hours. Not that long, so it got me thinking, what if I got trapped even much more longer than that. Scary thought.
